RESEARCH INTERESTS Dr. Delgado-Vélez's group focuses on identifying therapeutic targets to mitigate inflammatory processes associated with viral infections, such as HIV and SARS-CoV-2. In these infections, cholinergic receptors expressed by macrophages have emerged as potential therapeutic targets to counteract the excessive inflammation that characterizes infections by these pathogens. Additionally, our group investigates Merkel Cell Carcinoma, an aggressive skin cancer, where we aim to determine the role that cholinergic receptors play in this type of cancer.
